All these jars come pre-sterilized with liquid culture nutrient solution within them. They come packed with an aluminum foil layer to guarantee your liquid culture arrives sterile.
These jars are ready to use as soon as they arrive! Simply add your agar wedge to the jar and incubate between 25-26c, ensuring to shake it well daily!
The mycelium will grow into the nutrient solution and flourish! It will be ready to use once you have at least 50% coverage. Liquid culture colonizes at a quicker rate than spores, as you do not need to wait for them to germinate.
Using agar, it is possible to select good strong isolates. Adding a section to the liquid culture jar allows you to multiply the amount you have, making it into a form you can easily extract with a syringe and inject into bags, jars, monotubs, etc.
It is also possible to directly inject spore solution into this jar to make liquid cultures, but we do not recommend this. Germinating spores within agar on a petri dish to check for a clean sample is well advised.
Ensure to sanitize the injection port when you need to extract the contents to prevent contamination. We recommend using a new, sterilized 14-16g needle to penetrate the center of the injection port to such up the required amount. Although the injection port is self-healing, adding a piece of micropore tape will secure your jar within your fridge (between 2-8c).
Prior to use, it’s important you test the liquid culture in a Petri Dish or Jar containing agar. Incubate between 25-26c.
