You don’t need any expensive lab equipment to get started with this kit. We do all the hard work by pre-preparing everything you need – from sterilised grain spawn, premium CVG bulk substrate, a MonoTub and essential supplies. This kit allows for a more advanced cultivation process, giving you greater control over each stage of growth while still reducing the risk of contamination. HOW TO USE 

The process is simple: 

1. Inoculation: Start by injecting the sterilised grain spawn bag with your chosen mushroom spores or culture (available separately). 
2. Colonisation: Allow the substrate to colonise. Once at around 30% mycelium coverage, mix the bag fully. Our optimally hydrated millet and milo blend is superior to many other grains like rye as it colonises more rapidly and resists contamination. 
3. Spawning: Once fully colonised, mix the grain spawn with the included bulk substrate bag (for a perfect 1.5:1 ratio) and transfer it to the MonoTub container. 
4. Fruiting: Maintain the ideal conditions, and soon you’ll see mushrooms begin to fruit right before your eyes!  

GROWING CONDITIONS 

Temperature: 

• Colonisation: Mycelium (the vegetative part of the fungus) colonises the substrate best at around 24-27°C (75-80°F)

• Fruiting: For the fruiting stage when mushrooms begin to develop, slightly cooler temperatures (about 21-24°C, or 70-75°F) are recommended. 

Humidity: High humidity (over 90-95%) is essential for healthy, large fruits. Use misting, humidifiers, or a fruiting chamber to maintain humidity.    

Light:  

• Colonisation: Complete darkness is preferred for rapid colonisation.    

• Fruiting: Indirect sunlight or ambient light is sufficient. 

Fresh Air Exchange (FAE): Proper ventilation is necessary to provide the growing mushrooms with fresh air and prevent the buildup of carbon dioxide, which can inhibit growth.    

Sterility: Maintaining a clean and sterile environment is paramount to prevent contamination from other fungi or bacteria, which can compete with the mycelium and hinder its growth. 

INGREDIENTS  

Good ingredients make for excellent grow kits. That is why we only use 100% natural and organic CVG substrate and proprietary millet and milo grain blend in our kits. We only use the high-quality, natural ingredients for our products, specifically selected to support the optimal growth of mushrooms. 

Our Bulk Substrate – CVG Mix is a premium blend of coco coir, vermiculite, and gypsum, optimised for high nutrient availability and moisture retention. This substrate has been designed to support impressive yields while reducing contamination risks. 

We pair this with our optimally hydrated millet and milo blend. These small, nutrient dense grains are ideal for spawn production because they colonise quickly and resist contamination better than many other grains, including rye. We first soak and then cook our grain, carefully hydrating it to around 50% water content before sterilising the bags in a computer-controlled steam autoclave for 2 hours at 121°C.

STORAGE 

Please aim to use your MonoTub soon after receiving it. If you are not using right away, store the grain and bulk substrate bags in the fridge. Stored this way, your kit should last at least 3 months.
